The CEO of Pathway Society Inc., Gary Montrezza, would like to invite you to participate in the 1st annual Pathway Society Recovery Ride.
This year, I’ll be leading our very first Recovery Ride—an inspiring cycling event that symbolizes the journey of recovery: determination, resilience, and the power of community support. The Recovery Ride brings together supporters, families, and advocates to raise awareness and funds while standing in solidarity with those working to rebuild their lives. But this isn’t your typical fundraiser.
I’m excited to share that we’re opening a new detoxification facility in downtown San Jose—expanding access to critical, life-saving care for members of our community at a time when it’s needed most. To ensure this new center is fully equipped to serve clients with dignity and excellence, we’re hosting a special fundraising event to support essential needs such as medical equipment, beds and furnishings, and program supplies.
What is The Recovery Ride?
Substance Use Treatment and Recovery
For people in recovery or substance use treatment, the journey feels like scaling a mountain—like Mt. Everest. It looks insurmountable and exacts suffering but also reward to anyone who makes the attempt. Life’s stresses are the constant background noise that threaten sliding back down the mountain—and disappointing family, friends, and loved ones. But mostly oneself. It’s hard.
Cyclists Climb Mountains Too
In cycling, mountains are climbed too. “Everesting” on a bike means that a cyclist climbs the equivalent elevation of Mt. Everest (29,032 ft.) in one attempt by repeating a hill climb segment until the altitude of Mt. Everest is attained. It’s hard.
The Recovery Ride Challenge
Pathway Society’s Recovery Ride is a solo cyclist’s Everesting attempt to raise additional funds for Pathway Society’s new detoxification facility in downtown San Jose scheduled for completion in August of 2026. The effort honors and highlights the difficulty individuals and families experience when a loved one is in treatment or active recovery.
